The Television Critics Association consists of over 200 accredited journalists from the United States and Canada. The TCA awards are given to shows and actors who have shown outstanding achievement in the television season and the TV industry.
Dax Shepard will Host the 2010 TCA Awards
On July 31, 2010, the awards will be given out at a ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel hosted by Dax Shepard from the hit TV show Parenthood. “The nominees reflect a strong year that brought innovative storytelling to viewers,” said TCA President Susan Young. “In the 26 years the Television Critics Association has been giving these awards, the more than 200 members reaching millions of readers have been able to spotlight the best television can offer.
The nominees for the 2009-2010 Season spotlight the best in their fields.
2010 TCA Awards Nominees
For Individual Achievement in Drama, the nominees are Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul from Breaking Bad on AMC, John Lithgow from Dexter on Showtime, Julianna Margulies from The Good Wife on CBS, and Katey Sagal from Sons of Anarchy on FX.
For Individual Achievement in Comedy, the nominees are Ty Burrell and Eric Stonestreet from Modern Family on ABC, Jane Lynch from Glee on Fox, Nick Offerman from Parks and Recreation on NBC, and Jim Parsons from The Big Bang Theory on CBS.
For Outstanding Achievement in News and Information, the nominees are 30 for 30 on ESPN, America: The Story of Us on History Channel, Life on Discovery Channel, The Daily Show on Comedy Central, and The Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC.
For Outstanding Achievement in Youth Programming, the nominees are Dinosaur Train on PBS, Word Girl on PBS, iCarly on Nickelodeon, Yo Gabba Gabba on Nick Jr., and Star Wars: The Clone Wars on Cartoon Network.
For Outstanding New Program, the nominees are Glee on Fox, Justified on FX, Modern Family on ABC, Parenthood on NBC, and The Good Wife on CBS.
For Outstanding Achievement in Movies, Miniseries and Specials, the nominees are Life on Discovery Channel, Temple Grandin on HBO, The Pacific on HBO, You Don’t Know Jack on HBO, and Torchwood: Children of Earth on BBC America.
For Outstanding Achievement in Drama, the nominees are Breaking Bad on AMC, Mad Men on AMC, Lost on ABC, Sons of Anarchy on FX, and The Good Wife on CBS.
For Outstanding Achievement in Comedy, the nominees are Glee on Fox, Modern Family on ABC, Parks and Recreation on NBC, Party Down on Starz, and The Big Band Theory on CBS.
For Program of the Year, the five nominees are Glee on Fox, Lost on ABC, Modern Family on ABC, Friday Night Lights on DirecTV/NBC, and Breaking Bad on AMC.
TCA Special Awards
Every year the TCA honors a long-standing program that has impacted the culture and society. This year the nominees are 24, M*A*S*H, Law & Order, Lost, and Twin Peaks.
The TCA annually recognizes an individual who has made a great impact on television through the years. This year the five nominees for the Career Achievement Award are actor James Garner (The Rockford Files), reporter and producer Bill Moyers (Bill Moyers’ Journal), executive producer/creator/writer Sherwood Schwartz (The Brady Bunch), actor William Shatner (Star Trek), and executive producer Dick Wolf (Law & Order franchise).
