Mary McCormack returns as Mary Shannon, a U.S. Marshall working for the witness protection program (WITSEC). Along with her partner Marshall Mann (Fred Weller), yes he is Marshal Marshall, they help witnesses relocate and start new lives when their old lives are in jeopardy. In Plain Sight is a drama with plenty of comic banter between the characters.
The first episode of this new season has the partners rescuing a car thief who is wanted by a group of professional thieves when he witnesses them kill another man. Mary and Marshall relocate him to Albuquerque where he is given a new name and a job at a country club.
Co-incidentally, Mary’s sister Brandi (Nicole Hiltz) is working for her boyfriend Peter (Joshua Malina) at his car lot where several cars have recently been stolen. With her long rap sheet it is only a matter of time before the police suspect Brandi of being an accomplice. It is lucky that Mary and Marshall have just relocated a former car thief who can help them track down the real thief or thieves.
In Plain Sight Season 4
This fourth season has several new storylines. In the first episode Marshall starts dating a new cop from Texas (Rachel Boston). Brandi and Peter get engaged and there is plenty of planning for the big day. Mary, the ever-cynical sister, reluctantly helps with the event.
Paul Ben-Victor also co-stars in the series along with Lesley Ann Warren and Cristian de la Fuente. Other actors who are scheduled to make appearances this season include Rita Moreno, Allison Janney, Steven Weber, Tess Harper, Josh Cooke, Donnie Wahlberg, Bradley Whitford, John De Lancie and Ali Marsh. Whitford, Janney and Malina co-starred together in the hit series The West Wing. Steven Weber starred in the long-running comedy Wings as well as Studio 60.
Mary McCormack brings an edginess to her character of Marshall Mary Shannon. She is a tough, no-nonsense, intelligent woman who has no time for fun and fluff. Fred Weller’s character, on the other hand, is open to relationships and provides a lot of the comic relief to Mary’s straight-laced manner.
While the show primarily focuses on the U.S. Marshall and their job, there are plenty of private moments with the characters. And, due to the nature of the job, there is often a lot of action involved. Relocating people is only part of their job. They must also make sure they remain safe and when there is danger of any kind, they are called into action to help the relocated people.
While many of those relocated are criminals who have testified or agreed to testify against others, in particular mobsters, many of those who have been relocated are innocent of any crime but their lives are in danger. Starting a new life is difficult, and some of them don’t adjust as quickly as others.
