Adam Sandler stars as both Jack and Jill in this wacky family comedy.

Adam Sandler is Jack Sadelstein, an advertising executive. His twin sister Jill (also Sandler) comes to LA from the Bronx to share the holidays with Jack, his wife (Katie Holmes), and their children. Jack and Jill (2011) is the story of twins, their similarities and their differences, and ultimately the love between siblings.

The Story of Jack and Jill

Jack never enjoys his sister’s visits. She is a bit loud and always says what’s on her mind. Jill has a good heart, but she is a bit out of place in Jack’s sedate environment.

At work Jack is tasked with getting Al Pacino to sign to make a TV commercial for Dunkin’ Donuts. Pacino in a Donut commercial? Apparently, he is the only one the company wants for their ad, so Jack decides to find Pacino and talk him into doing the commercial.

Jack takes Jill to a Lakers game, where he knows Al Pacino will be. What ultimately happens is that Pacino is taken with Jill. He misses the Bronx where he is from, and Jill brings back all of his fond memories. But Jill is not interested.

The story takes place over several weeks as Jill continues to stay in Los Angeles with her family and continues to be wooed by Al Pacino. She admits she is lonely, and decides to join an online dating service, which turns out to be a big mistake. But there is always Pacino waiting for her, even though she has no desire to pursue that option.

Review

Jack and Jill is a wacky comedy with the typical Adam Sandler antics. It’s not a great film, but fans of Sandler will enjoy watching him take on both the persona of a man and a woman. Perhaps what makes this most enjoyable are all the cameo appearances by other celebrities. David Spade, Shaq, John McEnroe, Christy Brinkley, the Sham Wow man, and many others make small cameos throughout the film.

Bonus features include deleted scenes, of which there are many, bloopers, and a look at the celebrities who made cameos in the film. And there is a look behind the scenes of the segment where the entire family goes on a Royal Caribbean cruise. The production company basically took over the ship, going so far as to have the captain steer it around so the lighting would be perfect for the scenes. It’s an interesting look at filmmaking.
