The National Geographic Series is now on DVD with eight episodes taken from real stories. These detective stories are amazing, and true.

Nazi Hunters is not based on fiction. It is the true stories of the brave people who hunted down notorious evil men and their quests took them around the globe. Most of us are familiar with the capture of Adolph Eighmann, the architect of Hitler’s “Final Solution.” His capture in Buenos Aires has been dramatized in several films including the mesmerizing movie The House on Garabadli Street. This story is recounted here in episode 2.

The Nazis – Cukurs, Eichmann, Barbi, Mengele, Strangl, Priebke, Lischka, Touvier and Wagner

Episode one focuses on Herbert Cukurs, who was known as “the hangman of Riga” When he was discovered living in Brazil, the Mossad sent an agent in to befriend the man and ultimately lure him into a situation where he was killed.

The second episode focuses on the hunt and capture of Adolph Eichmann. The third episode shows the great determination of one couple who dedicated their lives to hunting Klaus Barbi who was responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of innocent people including many children.

The fourth episode focuses on Erich Priebke who was actually listed in the phone book. The plan to capture this mass murderer is examined. And on episode five the evil Joseph Mengele is the subject of the mission. The remaining episodes focus on the missions to bring to justice Kurt Lischka, Paul Touvier, Gustav Wagner and Franz Strangl.

The Episodes

The episodes take viewers through the actual process of how the Nazi Hunters devised their plans and carried out their missions. Through reenactments, interviews with them as well as those who knew about the missions, background on the Nazis, and narration, viewers get a complete understanding not only of the actual missions but the bravery of the people who undertook these operations. They felt so deeply about their work that their own lives were placed in danger over and over again, but they continued. The evil men of the Nazi regime had to be brought to justice, whether that meant capturing them or killing them. After they had been responsible for the murder of millions and millions of innocent people, many of them were living comfortable lives. However with these Nazi hunters on their tails, that was all about to end.

It was unconscionable to think that these men who killed six million Jews and other innocent people were spread around the world living their lives as though nothing had happened. But they learned that the evils of their past were not forgotten.
