Chaz Dean has a different idea about cleansing hair. Instead of using shampoos that contain harsh chemicals and can strip hair of luster and leave it dry and damaged, he invented his Wen line of products.
Winter Vanilla Mint Cleansing Conditioner
Dean does something different with his line. Besides his regular scents of Cleansing Conditioners he brings out seasonal scents. In the fall he brought out Fall Ginger Pumpkin which was a delicious scent. For the cold months of the winter season, the Winter Vanilla Mint is like a breath of fresh air.
How do I describe the scent of Winter Vanilla Mint? Let me see. It is like the air after a fresh snowfall, with the addition of mint. At times it also reminds me of a scoop of peppermint ice cream. The first thing I thought of when I took a whiff of this newest scent was a peppermint mocha coffee at the local coffee store, without the chocolate. Just a nice minty scent.
As with all the Wen Cleansing Conditioners, the way to use it is to apply it to wet hair when you first get into the shower. Let it soak into the hair during your shower and rinse it off before you get out. You don’t need a separate shampoo and conditioner with these products. They’re cleansing conditioners, as the name implies. The one thing people have a difficult time adjusting to with these products is the fact that they don’t lather. According to Dean, the lather strips the hair and that is why he created these products.
The seasonal fragrances are available for limited times. This Winter Vanilla Mint will go away the end of February after its three month run, and there will be a new spring scent. So, if you really love the scent of vanilla mint, you should stock up on this product now. I think it will be enjoyable in the summer too for a refreshing blast of mint during the hot summer months.
Wen Treatment Oils
Another new product from the Wen line of hair care is the Treatment Oils. These blends of essential oils nourish, moisturize, restore and invigorate the scalp.
I tried the Sweet Almond Peppermint. I have to admit that I prefer the Fall Vanilla Mint Cleansing Conditioner scent to this one because it is a softer scent, but this Sweet Almond Peppermint Treatment Oil is still a refreshing fragrance. And it feels wonderful on my scalp.
If you’re not into Peppermint, the other scents are: Fig Sweet Orange, Cucumber Thyme, Pomegranate Rosemary, Tea Tree Eucalyptus, and Lavender Peppermint. They each have different properties to treat the scalp, and they were all created to moisturize the scalp and hair as well as reduce frizz.
The Treatment Oils come in a bottle with a dropper. To use it on your head you only need to use one or two drops, and for a thorough scalp treatment apply two to four drops and leave it on overnight. It doesn’t take much of this product, so one bottle will last quite awhile.
Review
I use the Wen products religiously because I have thick, wavy, frizzy and unruly hair and Wen has tamed my mane. I particularly like the fragrance of the Winter Vanilla Mint Cleansing Conditioner. It’s perfect for the season, conjuring up visions of candy canes. And, like the others in the line, it makes my hair smoother, more manageable, and shiny.
The new Treatment Oil adds to my hair regimen and feels refreshing on my scalp. Because the Cleansing Conditioners don’t lather, I have discovered that, even though they are great products that I personally recommend, they don’t make my head feel refreshed. That is why I use the Treatment Oil. Besides adding additional treatment to my head, it feels great. It treats my scalp while the Cleansing Conditioner treats my hair.
